ARMADILHA PARA PEGAR O SISTEMA: GERVANE DE PAULA E DISPUTAS VISUAIS NO SISTEMA DA ARTE BRASILEIRO

Resumo

Este artigo analisa a produção do artista mato-grossense Gervane de Paula a partir da exposição Como é bom viver em Mato Grosso, realizada em 2024 na Pinacoteca de São Paulo. Utilizamos como base teórica os pressupostos de autores como Mirzoeff (2016), Bourdieu (2007), Lipovetsky e Serroy (2015) e Rancière (2012; 2017; 2021). Partindo da crítica à hegemonia cultural do eixo Sudeste e das lógicas de legitimação no sistema da arte, investigamos como a obra de Gervane de Paula mobiliza uma estética popular para problematizar relações de poder, distinção simbólica e exclusão institucional em espaços consagrados da arte, em contraposição à estetização em massa característica do mundo contemporâneo. Ao recorrer a procedimentos críticos e irônicos, o artista não apenas se insere no sistema da arte, mas também subverte suas lógicas internas por meio de contravisualidades.

TRAP TO CATCH THE SYSTEM: GERVANE DE PAULA AND VISUAL DISPUTES IN THE BRAZILIAN ART SYSTEM

Abstract

This article analyzes the artistic production of Gervane de Paula, an artist from Mato Grosso (Brazil), based on the exhibition Como é bom viver em Mato Grosso, held in 2024 at the Pinacoteca de São Paulo. We use as a theoretical basis the assumptions of authors such as Mirzoeff (2016), Bourdieu (2007), Lipovetsky and Serroy (2015) and Rancière (2012; 2017; 2021). Starting from the critique of the cultural hegemony of the Southeast axis and the logics of legitimization in the art system, we investigate how Gervane de Paula's work mobilizes a popular aesthetic to problematize relations of power, symbolic distinction and institutional exclusion in consecrated art spaces, in contrast to the mass aestheticization characteristic of contemporary world. By resorting to critical and ironic procedures, the artist not only inserts himself into the art system, but also subverts its internal logics through countervisualities.
